Chapter 6.26

Liam 26, Zack 21, Lexie/Cory/James 54, August/Beau/Briar 71 (RIP Siobhan and Seth! 😥 )

“So…it’s yours. Your dad set it all up. All you have to do is sign the papers.” Some suave guy with only a jacket on and no shirt under it met us at the weirdest house in Oasis Springs.

But it fit Liam to a tee.

I sighed.

“Hey, Zack,” Liam said, “don’t be pressured. We can keep looking. I can understand if you don’t want to take a gift from Dad.”

I looked at my brother.

Was he serious?

My mind flew back to the day that changed all our lives. When reality struck me. I was just a stupid kid, not really understanding anything except my baby sister was gone.

I’ll never forget my mother screaming, just wailing at her gravesight. And Liam…her death crushed him like it was his kid who’d died.

It was like I was a person on the sidelines of a bad movie, watching all the drama. I was so helpless. I felt like shit. I loved Brandy. I missed her so badly that it sometimes made my stomach sick. But what made it worse was Mom and Dad always fighting, hollering at each other for the stupidest crap.

I could tell they hated each other.

And as a kid, I worried they were going to split.

Didn’t take long. Mom told me to pack up my stuff, said we’re moving out. I had no say in it. A part of me was relieved because I needed my brother. I was so lonely in that huge mansion with no one to hang out with on top of that hill. It was like a golden prison to a kid.

But a part of me was screaming inside. I didn’t want my parents to divorce. I knew I’d miss my dad. Miss my family being together. I cracked apart in so many ways, I didn’t think I’d ever be happy again.

Thank God for Liam, though. After that, he was always there for me. Whenever I wanted to talk about things, anything, he’d listen.

And he gave me the love I didn’t get from either of my parents.

Over time, I thought of him as my father, not my real dad. Hell, we’d see him only a few times a year. But Liam made sure to spend time with me.

Teaching me how to fish, play basketball, talk to me about girls.

Next thing that happened, Mom got married to Cory. And then got pregnant right away with twins–Kadence and Kaylin.

She whisked us out of the home we grew up in to another house. One for her new family.

Liam and I shared a room. I didn’t care about it. Never felt like my house. I didn’t even have a say in the decorations. I just lived there.

A warm body in the house.

Dad’s movie was a ginormous hit. Everyone knew it would be. He wanted Liam and me to come to his premiere but Liam refused and I couldn’t go without him.

When we went to see a different movie, I saw Dad’s face on billboards. It was so weird.

Liam just stared at the Robotron poster with a sad look on his face.

He hated the movie and refused to see it. I hated watching Liam die a little each day being without Brandy. He never could forgive himself for not moving to Del Sol Valley. If he had, he believed Brandy would still be with us. But that wasn’t true. On that horrible day, Brandy was supposed to be napping. Liam wouldn’t have known. She slipped out of the house to the backyard, we believe looking for her toy stuffed animal–her favorite. It had blown into the pool somehow and we think she wanted to retrieve it, but…

God, I hated thinking about it.

I tried to tell Liam he couldn’t have saved her but he thinks he would have heard the back door. There was no talking him out of it.

After everything that happened, it didn’t help that Mom blossomed as a mother and doted on her new kids and husband.

It was like Liam and I were accidents. And with Brandy gone, she wanted to forget and make a fresh start.

She loved us, but there was a huge difference in her happiness when she was with them. As they say, actions speak louder than words. But I couldn’t blame her or Cory and I certainly couldn’t blame my little brother and sister. Cory was her soulmate. It was so apparent. But for me and Liam, it just sucked.

At least Liam had Ginny during that hard transition. They were inseparable and I was happy for him.

But it was liked his life was cursed or something.

Two years into college, Liam and Ginny were undergrad archaeology students, going to Brindleton Bay University so he could stay with me while I was in high school. He’d told me they’d planned on getting married right after they graduated college and both decided to go to the renown University of Archaeology in Oasis Springs for their graduate work.

They fed off each other, always studying, going on digs with her parents. I was honestly so stoked for him.

And then, Dad was up for an award. It was at the same time Ginny decided to go on an exploration with her parents in Sulani. Liam wanted to come but in the end, he did what he always did–family first.

Then tragedy struck. Ginny and her parents went on a hike near a volcano but were never heard from again.

People surmised they must have gotten lost in the thick jungle–or maybe went on a dive and got caught in the current. Liam always believed she’d come back to him. But after six years passed, he finally said his good byes to her officially.

It crushed me to watch him in pain. But I was going to be there for him just like he was always there for me.

After that day at the volcano, I’d never seen him smile. Not really.

Losing Ginny consumed whatever was left in him after Brandy had died. He was an empty shell of his former self from then on.

It tore me apart to watch him. I wanted to take his pain away. He didn’t deserve this.

He’d do anything for anyone. And he loved his family. Why did this have to happen?

Swallowing down a lump in my throat, I shook my head.

In the end, Dad became one of the hottest blockbuster stars in our nation.

He had so much money, he bought us this house. I knew he did it for Liam. It was an archaeologist’s dream. Liam wanted us to live in a house together until I found someone to share my life with one day.

I was a senior in college, going to Oasis Springs University down the road from the place he got his pHD and worked now– The University of Archaeology.

How could I say no?

I clasped my hands together and said, “Let’s do this.”

The rare grin on his face made me so glad about my decision.

He clapped me on the back and squeezed, saying, “Thanks, man. I owe you.”

I chuckled. “No, Liam. You don’t owe me a thing.”

  1. This was so sad. Im not surprised they divorced after that. It happens often with the death of a child, even if the marriage was strong. Their’s certainly wasn’t. Not anymore. I have a good friend that lost their 3 year old daughter to a tragic accident, she choked on a grape in her car seat. They almost didn’t make it, lots of counseling and two kids later they are fine.

I’m glad that Lexie found happiness finally with her one true love. But dang, Liam is sad. 😭💔 He lost everything. His family and his girlfriend. Both boys lost everything – except each other. Thanks to Liam. I’m not surprised that Liam took Zack under his wing. If he hadn’t Zack would’ve become angry and lost. Maybe he’d tried to go to James. But this had to be better for him.

Liam definitely has the day genes and Zack looks like so much like his father.

Great way to move past the hard stuff! Ready to see where you take us next.

    1. Yeah, losing Brandy just put a vast chasm between them. Their hurt was never counseled and it festered into resentment. So instead of dealing with it and working on her marriage, Lexie fled. And I’m so sorry about your friend. I could not imagine a worse scenario. I’m very glad they worked through it though.

Yes, Lexie is fine but LIAM! He’s not. And I’m not sure he’ll ever recover wholly. We shall see though! 😉

Thankfully, the boys do have each other. Zack is fairly fine because of Liam’s love and support. But what about Liam? I do think Zack would have gone to James if he didn’t have Liam. So true.

Liam carries on the Day look and Zack is James 2.0 😉

Yes…hard stuff over. Let’s get to the rom com, shall we?

  2. Dark WitcHazard: When you destroy someone you don’t disappoint!

Lover WitcHazard: What am I reading poor Liam and Zack I hope they’ll be able to fix their relationship with James it looks like he’s trying! On the other hand Lexie I’m all for moving on but you still have two kids who need you! Rude just rude!

Shipper WitcHazard: Taking out a ship and bringing back and old one is true compensation! 😭😭😭😭😭 I was starting to like Ginny!

Nooboo WitcHazard: Two nooboo will never replace the one that was lost but it will help with the pain! However I am saddened by the thought that it took losing a child for Lexie to not take motherhood for granted! I know she had her issues but still it’s sad!

    1. Dark: How did I know this sad chapter would please you? 😉

Lover: James will always try to be in their lives. It’s just he’s a busy movie star! And Lexie is still running away from her past. She really should try harder with the boys but it’s too easy with Cory and her younger kids. Liam is bitter and won’t have much to do with her. Zack is a bridge though. He has a relationship with all parents/siblings.

Shipper: Lol! At least you got a OTP ship out of the deal, right? And yes, so sad. I swoop in and take out Ginny before we really got used to her as Liam’s main squeeze. 😥

Nooboo: So true…you can’t replace nooboos! 😦 And honestly, Lexie should have gone with Cory at the concert back in the day, but then we wouldn’t have Liam and Zack. 😦 So…it’s a journey Lexie had to take to get her to her HEA. Let’s hope Liam will find his one day. 😉

  3. Time skip excitement!!

…But man, what a bummer these past ten years have been. Still, it was nice to get a peek inside Zack’s head!

Poor brothers, though. 😦 I’m glad Liam was there for his little bro.

Where is Ginny??? I don’t believe for a second that she’s dead! Maybe she got turned into a mermaid? 😉 If she does come back, I bet it’ll be when Liam’s with someone else–drama! 😱

Can’t wait to see more of Liam’s work as an archaeologist. ❤

    1. Time skips! And this one was a doozy! 😉

We’ll get inside Zack from time to time throughout this gen. He’s an objective observer.

Liam will always be there. He’s a rock even though he’s a sad shell of a person and changed.

Heh, heh…you don’t believe she’s really gone? Don’t buy the story of the lost souls? Well…we shall see if you’re correct. 😉

It’s been fun researching all about archaeologists and what they do. I used to be a molecular biologist (doing undergrad research) so I understand how being a professor as well as a researcher works, but this is totally different. I love it!

  4. I had a feeling that their marriage wouldn’t survive.

I’m surprised Lexie had another pregnancy – glad she’s better with these two at least.

This was…a bummer. Glad the brothers are at least close. It really feels like them against the world rn. Hopefully they find love and happiness.

    1. Yeah…Lexie and James were just too different with paths going in opposite directions. Sadly!

Lexie was 44 when she got pregnant. I think she just wanted a new fresh start with her OTP.

Liam and Zack have each other now and always will. Their bond will never be broken even by women! 😉 Let’s hope they both get HEA’s. They deserve it.

  5. *feels excited about time skips*

Wow, it’s sad that James and Lexie had to get a divorce. I had some feeling it wouldn’t last forever. At least I’m glad Lexie got to marry Cory and have twins with him.

It’s so sad to see the boys lost almost everything they treasure, but I’m glad they still have each other. Pray that they find more happiness in their lives.

    1. Hee! I love a good time skip. 😜

Yeah…sad for Lames but they’re both better off on separate paths. Too bad the boys feel tossed aside.

Here’s to their eventual happiness! 😍🥰😍

  6. With all the sadness in yours these past few chapters, I had to make sure I wasn’t reading mine.

If they never found Ginny and her parents, there’s a chance they will show up again later. I’m hoping so for Liam’s sake.

  7. First of all, I LOVE your movie posters. Make me want to see this Robotron movie.
Poor Liam. I can’t believe he lost Ginny too. Any chance she might resurface?
Zack is an absolute hottie. I hope we’ll see more of him. He seems like a great guy and good support for Liam.
I’m disappointed in Lexie, though. Ignoring her older children this way.

    1. Thanks! I had fun making those (if you couldn’t tell! 😜)

Yeah…losing Ginny was an awful blow. We’ll see if she shows back up! 🤷‍♀️

Zack…looks a lot like his dad, huh? And he’s a main character so we’ll get to see him a bunch. 😊

Lexie doesn’t mean to ignore her older children. She loves Liam and Zack very much but she’s so much closer to Cory and the preference shows, unfortunately. 😳

  8. Liam 😭 Zack 😭 Everyone 😭

It’s so awful to see how their family crumbled after this, but not entirely surprising either :-/ With all the issues James and Lexie already had, it was only a matter of time.

But wow, it’s so awful for Lexie to finally decide to be a good mother to her second set of kids 😭 I am sure it’s not intentional on her part, but that doesn’t make it any less damaging for her sons.

These poor kids… especially Liam. He was such a happy kid. But now, it looks like he’s a totally different person 😭

Gotta get on that archaeologist gear and start exploring though 😛 Convinced Ginny is still out there somewhere! (And maybe finding her is exactly what he needs to bring some happiness back to his life????)

Great chapter ❤️ even though it was sad 😦

    1. SO SAD!!! 😭

Lexie didn’t do this on purpose–you’re right. But it’s just too easy to get wrapped up in her happy family. She was only truly happy with James for the first five years. Then the cracks started to show and her depression didn’t help.

Liam WAS a happy kid/teen (despite what Mala did–that’s just normal teen break up stuff and he had Ginny at least). Then Brandy’s death hurt him, but the last blow was losing his anchor–Ginny.

Liam will get to exploring soon enough. 😉 We’ll get to see him at his job next chapter! Exploration will be in about seven chapters, I believe. 😉

And thank you! Glad you liked it!

  9. Oh man. Can’t say I’m surprised.
Grief can really rearrange your reality in a hurry 😔

An the Ginny! Noooooo! Poor Liam, this guy just can’t catch a break! 😭

Butt OMG, can we talk about how extra hot Zack is?
    Woa mama 👀🔥
